Are you feeling anxious about learning to drive because you have ADHD, Autism, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, or another neurodivergent condition? You are not alone, and it absolutely should not stop you from getting behind the wheel and gaining your independence.
As someone who has ADHD and Autism myself, I fully understand neurodivergence. I know firsthand that standard teaching methods don't work for everyone, and that sensory input or new environments can sometimes feel overwhelming. But learning to drive is a journey, and my goal is to make that journey as smooth, progressive, and comfortable as possible for you.
One of the most common worries my pupils have is about the legal and administrative side of things. The rules are actually very straightforward: unless your ability to safely control the vehicle is affected, the DVLA/DVSA do not need to be informed of your diagnosis.
An ADHD or autism diagnosis is not an automatic barrier to holding a driving licence. You only need to declare it if your condition—or the medication you take for it—impacts your concentration, reaction times, or physical ability to drive safely. If you are ever unsure, a quick chat with your GP can give you complete peace of mind.
Often, people focus on the challenges, but neurodivergent individuals bring incredible strengths to driving. Strong adherence to rules, sharp attention to detail, and the ability to hyper-focus can make you an exceptionally safe and capable driver. My job is to help you channel those natural strengths.
I take pride in adapting my teaching style to suit exactly how your brain works. My pupils frequently describe my lessons as a "calm, supportive and encouraging environment" that puts them at ease immediately.
Clear, Chunked Instruction: We take things one step at a time. I break down complex processes into manageable pieces so you never feel overloaded with information.
A "No Silly Questions" Policy: I teach in a progressive way where you can ask me absolutely anything. If an explanation doesn't make sense the first time, we will find a different way to look at it until it clicks.
Reducing Emotional Distraction: Driving anxiety is incredibly common. Using my background as a mindful driver trainer, I will help you manage stress, reduce sensory overload, and cultivate a calm mindset behind the wheel.
Test Adjustments: When it comes time for your theory or practical test, I can guide you through the reasonable adjustments the DVSA offers (such as extra time for your theory test or a quieter environment before your practical) to ensure you are supported on test day.
Former pupils have praised my ability to help them "overcome fairly severe driving anxiety to become a safe, confident driver," noting that my methods are "supportive and knowledgeable."
You deserve an instructor who advocates for you and understands how you learn. Drive in style and comfort in my Hyundai i20 N Line, fitted with professional dual controls for your absolute safety.
